This is the second in a five-part series on getting the best price for your next car.

(NEW YORK) — So you find the car of your dreams and you know how much you want to pay for it.

Now comes the daunting task of talking the dealer down to your terms.

The thought of having to negotiate with a dealer that wants to extract as much money from you as possible can be exasperating.

If that’s the case with you, MarketWatch reporter Charles Passy says you do have a couple options.

One is to have an outside company like truecar.com do the negotiating for you.

“You go through their website, you tell them what you’re looking for, and they will essentially give you a certificate that allows you to go to the dealership that gets the True Car pricing,” Passy says.

Another option is to go straight to the dealership’s Internet department.

“They kind of know you know a little more about pricing,” Passy says. “They know you’re coming in there with a fair idea of what you want to pay. And they’re much better at working out a fair price.”
