2014 Houston Art Car Parade (Morris Malakoff/Orange Show/KROI)

(HOUSTON) — Houston’s Art Car Parade is moving. Moving to a new time slot on the calendar, that is, which organizers hope will improve attendance.

If there was ever anything consistent about the art car parade, it was the weather. During the 28-year history of the parade, it has always been in May. And it’s always been hot.

“We’re excited to see some cooler weather,” And I think the audience and the artists alike will really be enjoying that,” said Jonathan Beitler with The Orange Show, which produces the parade.

Beitler said the April 11 date also won’t compete with local schools going through year-end events.

“We really think that moving it to April will not only allow for people to not be afraid to come out and brave the heat, but also allow them to have more time in their schedules because it’s not the end of the school year,” he said.

About 300,000 people currently watch the parade each year. Organizers expect that number to grow with the cooler weather.
