DADS LISTEN UP:

Fathers 2 Dads, a local nonprofit founded by Missouri City resident, Scott Porter, is launching a nationwide photo contest called “A Summer to Remember ‘Daddy Up’ Challenge.”

The contest invites men to take “selfies” with their kids engaging in a fun activity and upload the photos to the Fathers 2 Dads website.

Porter is hoping word of the online initiative goes viral and inspires fathers from across the country to create and capture lasting memories with their children.

Statistics show that the average dad spends less than an hour a day with their children, so with this campaign we are asking dads to be more conscious of the time they spend with their children to create memories that will last a lifetime,” said Porter.

Photos will be displayed on the Fathers2Dads Facebook page and voted on by the public through Aug. 30, 2014. Three photos will be selected as first, second and third place winners based on online votes.

Fathers who participate will have a chance to win one of three top prizes: 1st place – a Princess Cruise Lines 4 day 3 night cruise (for a family of 4), 2nd place – an Apple iPad, and 3rd place – dinner and a movie (for a family of 4).

To enter the contest, visit http://www.fathers2dads.org, upload a photo, click on the Daddy Up Pledge button and respond to three questions, then click on the Facebook button to like the organization’s page, says Porter of the process.

Weekly giveaways also will be awarded, including gift cards, gas cards, movie passes, and more, with the names of weekly winners posted each Friday on the organization’s Facebook page until the contest closes.

Porter encourages men to think of simple ways to become involved in their children’s lives.

Take them bowling, take them to the movies, take your daughter on a date, take your son to a ball game, go fishing, read a book, go have ice cream or go to church together,” said Porter of the many ways fathers can spend time with their kids.

“Then when you guys are out having fun doing your activity and spending time together, grab your cell phone and take a picture with you and your children,” added Porter.
