Taylor Swift may have to take her own advice and “shake off” some criticism over her new music video.  The video for her brand new single “Shake It Off” is being accused of playing on racial stereotypes of African-Americans.  The tongue-in-cheek video features Taylor dancing awkwardly with professional dancers of all different types of dance, such as ballet, contemporary and cheerleading.  During the segment devoted to hip-hop, she appears in front of a group of scantily-clad twerking female dancers while donning flashy hoop earrings and gold chains.

Odd Future rapper Earl Sweatshirt is calling Taylor out on Twitter, describing the video as “perpetuating black stereotypes to the same demographic of white girls who hide their prejudice by proclaiming their love of the culture.”  Other social media users are chiming in as well.  One follower called the video “4 minutes of cultural appropriation,” and another said Taylor tried to “play the quirky white girl who can’t fit in” and only accomplished “being ridiculously racist.”
