(HOUSTON) — The Fourth of July is Friday, and Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland once again warns that celebratory gunfire is dangerous — and against the law.
In Houston, it’s a Class A misdemeanor to fire a gun in the air. That’s punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a fine of up to $4,000.
McClelland said you’re not just committing a crime; you’re being stupid.

“That bullet has to come down, and you could injure someone or yourself – or kill someone or yourself,” he said.
Fireworks are also against city ordinance and a fire hazard. Make sure you’re in authorized areas outside the city and that there is no burn ban in place.
