A crisis communications expert says stronger laws and rules are needed to address problems with inappropriate teacher-student relationships.

From giving lap dances to sexting, Texas teachers hold the record across the nation in the number of improper teacher student relationships.

Terry Abbott, former Houston school district spokesperson and now crisis communications professional has been tracking the problem.

“As of last count last year, Texas had more than twice as many cases  as any other state,” Abbott said.

Abbott blames social media and urges school districts and lawmakers to take action.

“Teachers should not be able to friend students on Facebook, should not be able to private message them, certainly should not be able to text message with a single individual student, because that’s where so many of these cases begin,” Abbott said.
