August Alsina has been in the headlines recently for cursing out 106 & Park’s host Keshia Chante after she asked him about THE UNSPEAKABLE: (Whether him and Trey Songz will resolve their issues).

Alsina has made it known in prior interviews with blogs and radio stations that he’s not exactly a huge fan of Trigga’s character. Now, personally…I’ve heard him tell people that he would no longer talk about that situation. However, you know people can’t help themselves. You give a negro an inch, they’re bound to take a mile. [It’s comedy, people. LAUGH! Lol]

Wait, a minute. See what I’m saying? THIS POST was supposed to be a review of August Alsina’s new album…and we’re talking about his R&Beef! He would not approve, so let’s switch subjects.

August dropped his debut album “Testimony” on Tuesday and I gave it the famous Ride or Die Test. The ROD test has nothing to do with a LHHATL Star Mimi Faust sextape. The R.O.D. test is the way me and one of my friends started determining whether music was good. You can never really tell whether a song is dope or not, until you’re isolated with it in the whip.

So on my way to the studio the other morning, I drove through the H-Town traffic and gave A.A.’s new project a listen. Read below to find out if it’s something to ‘ride to’ or something that needs to be thrown out of the car window! LOL

Stand Out Tracks:

  • Right There – Homie showed that he’s hella humble. Anyone who’s on a steady grind and questioning whether they’re ever gonna really succeed to higher levels will LOVE this joint. Shoot! It even inspired me; I still have dreams of becoming a real force in this industry. I gotta work my way up!
  • Porn Star – The mood of this song is sexy; from the hypnotic-type beat to the hood-sexed lyrics….if “hood-sexed” is even a word. I’m a fan of some of the most freakiest songs. -_- Don’t ask me why. I think my alter-ego is able to relate to them ;-) Now, “Ride me like a Porn Star!” (Bites lips)
  • Grind & Pray / Get Ya Money (feat. Fabolous) – I admire the fact that August wasn’t afraid to sing about prayer. Nowadays, artists only want to make music about things that have no depth. “Grind & Pray” shows that he has a great soul. The story behind “Get Ya Money” is dope too. The song refers to an exotic dancer and how her hustle is no different from his. August tells the stripper that he’s not judging her and he salutes her. (Whispering) That’s prolly cause he’s behind her watching her drop it like it’s hot. LOL

My Least Fav Songs:

  • Testify – It’s not horrible. It’s just not one of my favs. I understand why it’s included on the album though. It was the only way to help solidify the project’s theme.

*I honestly can’t say anything bad about this project. The album’s really good! Get it and jam it for yourself.*

Final Grade: A+ (I would jam this over and over again). I’m so glad R&B is Back! “Testimony” is very well put together and has a lot of great concept songs. It’s something PERFECT to ride to. Great job, August! I’m proud of you.
