(HOUSTON) — Help for mothers of infants suffering from post-partum depression may just be a phone call away.

Post-partum depression affects 10 to 15 percent of women every year. Mothers who want to care for their baby can hardly manage to care for themselves.

Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women are teaming up to find out why.

They’re looking for volunteers for a study on how the hormone oxytocin affects the relationship between mothers and their babies.

Lucy Puryear with BCM says post-partum depression is a silent illness leaving mothers feeling very much alone.
