The musical inspired by Tupac Shakur’s music is one step closer to hitting Broadway.  According to the “Hollywood Reporter,” actor Saul Williams has signed on for the lead role in “Holler If Ya Hear Me.”  Williams is known for his role in the slam poetry movement and starred in the 1998 film “Slam.”  Tony Award-winning actress Tonya Pinkins has also joined the cast, as well as Broadway actors Christopher Jackson, Ben Thompson and John Earl Jelks.  “Holler If Ya Hear Me” incorporates Tupac’s music into a story about life in the inner city, but it is not based on the late rapper’s life.  Preview performances will begin on May 29th at Broadway’s Palace Theatre and it will officially open on June 19th.
