Director F. Gary Gray is on the lookout for actors to take on the roles of rappers from the rap group N.W.A.  At a recent audition session for the N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” Gray told Santa Monica’s KCRW radio that the actors who will play the N.W.A. crew need to have street cred.  He says that “hood factor” will bring an authentic vibe to film that seasoned actors can’t always convey.  So far, he says he’s “pretty happy” with the actors he’s seen auditioning for the rappers’ roles.

F. Gary Gray also compared “Straight Outta Compton” to films such as “Social Network” or “American Graffiti” that give viewers an insight into pivotal moments in the history of American culture.
