It seems so!
With Nicki Minaj being the current face of “Female Rap,” it may slip your mind that it hasn’t always been that way. With a rap career spanning 20+ years, Supa Dupa Fly Missy Elliot is known as the best-selling female rap artist of all time. Not only did she have multi-platinum albums of her own, but she was instrumental in the careers of many successful acts such as SWV, 702, and the late Aaliyah. After winning a Grammy in 2005, and releasing a “Greatest Hits” album in 2006, she seemed to be keeping a low profile.
In 2007 she reappeared on Keyshia Cole’s single “Let It Go,” and through out the years has been featured on/produced hit singles for Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Monica, Jazmine Sullivan, and J Cole. Even with all of her continued success, it seemed that a Misdemeanor solo project would continue to remain a distant memory. Well that is, until now.
In an interview with Yahoo, Missy Elliot promised her fans that she had a new album on the way soon. When asked why she hasn’t released an album in eight year, she said she took a “hiatus from music” because her brain needed time to “refresh.”
In 2011, Elliot told People magazine that her absence from the music scene was due to her diagnosis of Graves Disease, which is a hyperthyroid disorder that has kept her from being able to hold a pen. She has since stated that her condition is stabilized.
I’m glad you are doing better Missy and we are looking forward to your next piece of musical art!
