Traveling is something I love to do.  I’ve made it a goal to visit at least one foreign country a year.  This past August I was fortunate enough to visit the beautiful country of Colombia.  I visited Medellin, the coastal town of Cartagena, Parque Tayrona, the national state park, and finished my visit in the capital, Bogota.  Below is a breakdown.

Medellin – 2 nights
Cartagena – 3 nights
Parque Tayrona – 1 night (camped out on the beach)
Bogota – 4 nights

In this post I’m going to share info and pictures from Medellin.   I’ll cover the different cities in a new post (so look forward to that).

I stayed at a hostel in Medellin (The Happy Buddha Hostel, and I do recommend it!) a great option if you are adhering to a budget.  Getting around isn’t that big of problem, the public transit is great.  Just make sure to stay near a transit station.  Meals were usually $5-6 US Dollars.  There’s plenty to see and do in Medellin, I opted for a more relaxing time; visiting local restaurants and walking the city.

Medellin is the second largest city in Colombia.  It was once known as the most dangerous city in the world.  A result of the drug wars between cartels, most famously the Medellin Cartel funded by Pablo Escobar.  The Medellin of today is rewriting it’s troubled past,  in February 2013, it was chosen as the most innovative city in the world due to its recent advances in politics, education, and social development.

Below are a few pictures from Medellin.  If you have any questions or plan to take a trip somewhere tweet me  @KoopDeville
