The government has been shut down for seven days now and moving closer to a first-ever default.  Congress meet over the weekend to reach an agreement to reopen the government with no movement, but did pass a bill granting back pay to federal employees who have been furloughed (temporary unpaid leave of some employees) during the shutdown.

Although the parties were able to agree on that, they remain split on Saturday.  The Democrats in the House and Senate calling for a “clean” bill to reopen the government with Republicans demanding concessions from Democrats on The Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare before they consent to end the shutdown.
