The surviving members of TLC recently celebrated their 20th anniversary by releasing a remix to their 1994 mega hit “Waterfalls.” While most fans were excited to hear new material, the family of deceased group member Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes were not too happy to find Japanese pop star Namie Amuro rapping Lopes’ verse.

Left-Eye’s sister Reigndrop Lopes said she didn’t know about the remake “until a fan posted it online.”

“I mean, it would have been nice if they would have given us a heads up before being surprised,” she said.

Now, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chili” Thomas are setting the record start about the new song. In an interview with TMZ, the ladies said they were forced to replace Left-Eye on the track because the group doesn’t own the rights to her original rap.

“We were forced to use a creative way to honor Lisa’s memory and celebrate this milestone with the fans,” Chili explained. “We have and always will protect our sister’s legacy as TLC consists of the three of us collectively … there will never be a replacement for Lisa or any members in TLC.”

T-Boz  and Chili went on to say that the claims by Left-Eye’s family are false. The band argues that they did reach out to Lisa’s brother Ron Lopes before releasing the “Waterfalls” remix.

Now, you weigh in. Do you think it was a good idea to replace Left-Eye’s rap?
