Before B. Smyth cut “Leggo” with 2 Chainz, he was just another guy with a dream. But, if you want to become the next up-and-coming recording artist, this rising star says it’s about sweat equity and taking care of yourself. B. Smyth joined Qui West for an interview at 97.9 The Box’s Hip Hop 4 Health, where he shared what Trey Songz taught him while on tour, how he got his smooth dance moves and more.

The road to success in music, he says, is very much rooted in maintaining good health.

“Work hard and get some sleep,” B. Smyth said, when asked what he’s learned since signing with Motown. “There is going to be a lot of people pulling you in a lot of directions, but as a human being, you need your rest.”

Smyth was just 16 when he decided he wanted to go into music. Freestyling dance moves with his friends at school, never could he have imagined just a few short years later, his schedule would be jammed pack with touring, studio time and more dancing.

“We used to train, freestyle back in the day, but after I was signed, I was doing six or seven hours a day in choreography,” Smyth said.

All that physical work is probably a good thing. Judging by the screams from his largely female audience at Hip Hop 4 Health, Smyth is a big deal–and his fan base is swelling by the day. In fact, he’s starting to get used to the attention, he says.

“The girls got really crazy when I went on the Trey Songz tour,” he said. “I saw one lady jump a gate with six inch heels on!”

You can check out B. Smyth on iTunes now in “Leggo” feat. 2 Chainz, who he likens to something of a prodigy.

“With 2 Chainz on the record, you can’t do no wrong,” he said.
