A tornado warning has been issued until 11:15 a.m. in the Fort Bend County area, especially for those along 288 including the Sienna Plantation area. A flash flood warning has been issued for the Greater Houston area until 1 p.m. today.

Exercise extreme caution today if you must travel. Do not drive through high water.

A strong system of inclement weather is moving into the Houston area this evening which could effect a portion of our listening area, including areas along and north of I-10. Harris and surrounding counties were under a severe thunderstorm watch Thursday afternoon until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service forecasts that communities along I-10 may see severe thunderstorms, damaging downburst winds and large hail. Counties affected include Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Harris, Houston, Jackson, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Waller, Washington and Wharton.

Francisco Sanchez with Harris County Emergency Management says they are keeping a close eye on things but it’s hard to tell if we’ll see a repeat of last time.

He says the best thing the public can do is stay informed.

Sanchez says the biggest chance for severe weather will be Friday afternoon.

The commute Friday could be wet, with listeners in those counties mentioned receiving occasional shows and thunderstorms. By Saturday, a cold front will push south bringing the potential for heavy rain and storms.

Up to 3 to 5 inches of rain are expected in some areas.
