There may be no other underground artist in Hip Hop who has forged a consistent career for himself with little commercial success as J-Live. The man is independent in every sense of the word. J-Live (real name Jean-Jacques Cadet) made a name for himself after being featured in the “Unsigned Hype” section of The Source Magazine back in 1995. However, his first album “The Best Part” took six years to see the light of day even though he was signed to two labels. He started his own imprint “Triple Threat Productions” where he released his debut. Subsequent singles like “Braggin Writes” and “The Way I Rhyme” showcased J’s wordplay, still major radio airplay was still hard to come by.

“As I Start Over” can easily be a metaphor for Live’s career. The sound is vintage J-Live and the video is as a simple shot of one microphone, one MC, and his record collection. Peep the video below and follow the link to download the track.
