An elderly man from Wharton County has died from the West Nile Virus.
According to reports, the elderly man’s death is the first confirmed case of West Nile in Wharton County, with one other confirmation pending. It is not clear the exact date of his death as it was not released.
The man was described as being in his 70s and having other health problems. He lived near El Campo where he was hospitalized on August 9.
The man was later transferred to a Houston hospital but doctors weren’t able to save him.
There have been a total of 19 West Nile cases in Houston.
