HOUSTON – 40 homes, 15 arrests and bag after bag of marijuana were discovered in a drug bust in Spring, TX. That’s the news so far from a massive multiagency operation today.

Thomas Hinojosa with the DEA described what was inside a 2 story home in a quiet cul de sac of a fairly new subdivision known as the Preserve.

The 4 bedroom house is just 6 years old and nestled among beautiful trees off of Piney Heights Drive, “we’ve got marijuana plants in various stages of growth. There’s grow lights, there’s ballasts, there’s surge protectors.” He adds, “the rooms are surrounded by reflective panels, the rooms look like they’re in the sun 24-7.”

The house is being rented and a neighbor said in her six years she had never seen anyone in the front yard. She described cars pulling into the garage and shutting the door but she never spotted anyone walking around.

Right around the corner, growing equipment fills the yard of another home that was raided. It will likely take all day to process all the evidence seized today.

Javier Pena with the DEA tells us the growers try to blend in but that it never really works. Neighbors usually notice that all the windows are always blocked, that no one ever comes outside much less socialized.

All of the homes targeted today are believed to be run by the same Vietnamese organization. This neighborhood is in Spring but law enforcement also moved in on houses in Fort Bend and Harris counties. They do expect more raids and arrests as this investigation continues.
