Three former police officers accused of beating a black teenage burglary suspect have asked a judge to move their trials elsewhere.
Joe Owmby, the attorney for Raad Hassan, one of the officers involved, says it’s impossible to predict what a jury will think.
Hassan, Phil Bryan, and Drew Ryser appeared in Harris county court, facing misdemeanor “abuse of power” charges for the March 2010 incident. A fourth ex-officer, Andrew Blomberg, was acquitted of a misdemeanor charge in May. That acquittal is part of the problem, according to Bryan’s attorney, Aaron Sudor.
The judge has not issued a decision, but says he will consider the requested change of venue.
The four officers were fired and indicted in connection with the videotaped beating of then-15-year-old Chad Holley.
