The new Texas Voter Identification Law has been all the talk at the 103rd NAACP Convention in Houston. The Texas Voter Identification Law was passed in order to prevent voter fraud and require voters to show a driver’s license or state identification in order to cast a ballot. As federal court in Washington D.C. fights the Texas law, the NAACP Convention in Houston highlights the legislation. NAACP President Benjamin Jealous states that in 2011 and 2012 more states have passed more laws pushing voters out of the ballot box than in any legislative cycle in more than a century. A hearing in Austin is expected to take five days and a ruling is expected in late July or early August.
