The Metro Transit Authority quickly stepped up police presence after one of its riders was attacked last week. The man accused of sexually assaulting a metro bus rider had a preliminary court appearance in the 337th district court this morning.
Fredderick Carrier is accused of assaulting a woman just before 1 a.m. June 13 on the number two route in the 7600 block of Bellaire. The bus is equpped with cameras and officers were able to track down and arrest the 37-year-old on outstanding warrants.
Judge Herb Richie assigned a court appointed attorney. Carrier has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1993 with nearly a dozen charges ranging from assault, trespassing and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
Now he is charged with sexual assault and being held on $100,000 bond. Judge Richie also ordered a psychological evaluation on carrier who heads back to court August 1 for arraignment.
