A severe thunderstorm watch that was issued early Friday has been extended for the Greater Houston area as a fast-moving cold front moves through through the region.

Rainstorms, high winds and hail have all been confirmed.

The front is likely to arrive sometime Friday evening, bringing a chance of wide-spread showers and thunderstorms as the fast-moving system pushes through to the coast, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters said most areas may see between about a quarter of an inch and a half of an inch of rainfall. The severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for much of southeast Texas, including Harris and surrounding counties, through 8 p.m. Friday.   Some of the storms could pack high winds and hail, forecasters added.

But the weekend is expected to be sunny, mild and dry after the front blows through the coast.
