Texans quarterback Matt Schaub missed practice today while undergoing treatment for a bursa sac injury in his right knee.

Coach Gary Kubiak said Schaub spent the day at Methodist Hospital. Kubiak said he expects Schaub back on the practice field Thursday, and if all goes according to plan, he will start against the Jets on Sunday.

“Matt spent last night in a (Methodist) hospital battling a bursa sac issue but is doing well, and I expect him to be here tomorrow,” Kubiak said. “Everything should be okay.

“We put him in the hospital to treat it, basically, and get some rest and get off of it. (We) made a decision this morning to let him stay there all day. Like I said, he should be getting back out here tomorrow.”

Dan Orlovsky played with the starters in practice today and Matt Leinart was the backup.

“Dan practiced well today,” Kubiak said. “Dan and Matt, we’ll get them ready to play. I would expect Matt (Schaub), if everything goes like I’m talking to you, it should be okay.”

Bursitis happens when bursae, the fluid-filled sacs that lie between a tendon and skin, or between a tendon and bone, become inflamed. The condition is painful but tends to go away after a few weeks with propert treatment.

Meanwhile, The Associated Press reported that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is limited at practice with an injured right calf. It probably won’t prevent him from playing against the Texans.
