A jackknifed 18-wheeler shut down several lanes of a southwest Houston freeway for nearly an hour during afternoon rush-hour traffic.

Police said the big rig was traveling northbound on Highway 59 near the Weslayan exit when it was involved in a wreck with another vehicle at about 3:30 p.m.Only one northbound lane was open until about 4:30 p.m.Traffic was backed up for miles, so drivers were urged to avoid the area.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation.There’s no word yet of any injuries.
