Prairie View A&M unveiled designs Friday for a proposed new athletic complex that will feature a 15,000-seat football stadium.
“I’ve always said that’s the last piece of the puzzle,” Prairie View A&M football coach Henry Frazier III said.
The first phase of the project will feature a football stadium and accompanying Athletic Department Center.
The school said the projected cost of the first phase is $60 million. The Prairie View A&M Foundation will take the lead role in fundraising efforts for what the school called a “historic project.”
No timetable has been set for the start of the project.
Prairie View officials made the announcement during the 36th annual Prairie View A&M National Alumni Convention in New Orleans.
The new stadium will be located south of Blackshear Stadium and will include a FieldTurf playing surface, reserved seating, state-of-the-art press box, on-site ticket booths, club seating, luxury suites and an enhanced tailgating and parking area.
The Athletic Department Center would feature more than 74,000 square feet of student-athlete space and would include a new weight room, locker and dressing rooms, an Academic Enhancement and tutoring area, team/position meeting rooms and additional space for team equipment.
In addition, the center would also include a memorabilia area featuring the Prairie View Sports Hall of Fame.
